Is Chico good with kids? We are looking for a family pet, which includes our 6 year old daughter. She wants a dog to love and be her best friend. She is not hyper at all, very mild mannered.
Hi there! Chico has been with us for 3 weeks, but we don't have kids so his exposure has been minimal. Over Memorial Day he was around a toddler and 2 teenagers - good with all of them! Here's some info that seems relevant: He takes treats nicely/gently and loves to snuggle up with people - he is a very affectionate pup. He does not mind being picked up and has no body-handling issues (meaning, you can touch his ears or paws and he's okay). He loves to be brushed and get belly rubs - very calm guy inside. His absolute favorite thing is to play fetch (inside or out) and can do it for a long time. Outside, he is way more energetic. I think he would be fine with a kiddo inside, but I would not trust a little kid to talk him for a walk alone since he will pull the leash if he sees a rabbit to chase or a biker. In general, little kids should be supervised with dogs (especially new pups!), and of course, teaching kids to respect dogs space and signals is important, too. Let me know if you have more questions!
I am visiting Anna, (my daughter) and walk Chico. He will be a bit 'macho' with other dogs and bark. He also will bark at passing bikes (only when moving by), but he has been friendly with people and children. I was just with Chico at a coffee shop and a mother and three year old girl loved Chico and he was friendly giving kisses! He is a "personal assistant" with his best friend, like a brother!
